Department of Theater and Dance performing “Love Letters” during Celebration and Reunion Weekend

Body of the review

Auburn University Theater and Dance presents “Love Letters” as part of its special celebration and reunion weekend, May 13-15 at the Telfair B. Peet Theater.

The weekend of celebration and reunion marks the recent retirement of three valued longtime members of the theater and dance faculty and the Auburn-Opelika community: Professor Emeritus Daydrie Hague, Associate Professor Emeritus Robin Jaffe and Emeritus Professor Dan LaRocque. Among the events included this weekend is a special production of AR Gurney’s “Love Letters,” directed by Ashley Butler, Theater ’93, and featuring Daydrie Hague* and Dan LaRocque.*

Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence charts the ups, downs and unpredictable intersections of their lives. Conceived long before the internet and smartphones, Gurney’s Pulitzer Prize-winning work uses the lost art of letter writing to examine how the intimacy of pen and paper can transcend physical and spiritual distance.

This performance will be presented as part of a special celebration of Auburn University theater and dance and reunion weekend and is also open to the public.

The duration of “Love Letters” is approximately 90 minutes with an intermission.
