BEER GUIDE 2021 – What do you drink?
PILSNER – Named after the Bavarian town of Pilsen, where it was first produced in 1842. The world’s first pale lager, Pilsner is light to golden in color and has a dense, rich foam.
CORN – Top fermentation beers, sometimes cloudy and unfiltered. Brewed with more wheat in proportion to the amount of barley. The main varieties are the German Weitzenbier and the Belgian Witbeir.
WHITE BEER – Made with a pale malt. Different styles of brewing result in a wide variety of flavors. English lagers tend to be a bit spicy and hoppy, while American beers have a hint of fruit.
LAGER – Crisp, refreshing and sweet, this is a lager for you. The word “lager” comes from the German word for “storage” because they usually store beer before drinking it.
SEASON – Fruity, spicy and with a lot of sparkle, this French-based drink was historically brewed with little alcohol, but today’s drinkers simply wouldn’t have it, so modern productions have increased the alcohol content .
IPA – India Pale Ales have a bitter aroma, but are medium bodied and with a grassy and lemony character. They originated in England, but were commonly exported to English troops serving in India, hence the name.
BROWN BEER – The flavors vary enormously for this darker brew. The first ‘brown ales’ were created by London brewers in the 17th century, although modern drinkers do not recognize what they produce under this name.
BOCK – Heavy but smooth, a bit like our editor. Traditionally brewed in the fall but drunk in the spring, bocks come in a variety of styles, from the lighter maibock to the stronger Eisbock.
BEER – Top fermentation beer with a rich and creamy foam. When carriers gained popularity in the 18th century, brewers called the stronger varieties “hardy carriers,” and the name stuck.
CARRY – An almost black drink thanks to its brewing with brown malt. The popularity of carriers saw them brewed all over the world, from North America to Russia, although they were first developed in London.
